At Southern Hills UMC we refer to the children in our Children’s Ministry as “Mountain Movers” based on this verse from Matthew.
MISSION STATEMENT: We equip children with a biblical foundation that connects them to God and cultivates a heart-transforming personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
MINISTRY VISION: Our vision is to inspire a life-long, mountain-moving faith in all the children we encounter, preparing them to move mountains.
Sunday Activities
Children’s Sunday School – 9:15 to 10:15
Children 0-3 are welcome in the nursery. PreK through 6th grade have Sunday School classes split by grade.
Children in Worship
While all children are always welcome in service, we do offer nursery for children up to 5 years of age during the worship service. We have Busy Binders and Sensory Kits available near the Welcome Desk. We also have a Children’s Moment before the sermon where the children are called up to the front of the room for a special message just for them.
Wednesdays
We have a church fellowship dinner every Wednesday at 5:30. After dinner, children are dismissed to attend children’s Wednesday evening activities (6:30-7:30).
Confirmation
Confirmation class is a study dedicated to preparing students (usually 5th-6th graders) to become full members of the United Methodist Church. The course covers the history and theology of the United Methodist Church. Each student is paired with an adult mentor who helps guide the student on the journey through Confirmation class.
Melody Choir
Melody Choir is our children’s choir. They sing occasionally in worship services, put on a fabulous musical every Christmas, and sometimes have a special spring performance, too! Melody Choir was started decades ago by one of our beloved late members, Shirley Walker, lovingly known as “Miss Shirley.” A few years ago it was handed over to the wonderful Miss Sarah.

Vacation Bible School
Every summer, we offer a Vacation Bible School (VBS).
